READY, STEADY, GO!
Coinciding with some of the main European fabic shows (Pitti Filati, Première Vision* and Milano Unico) one of the world’s great sporting events, the men’s European football championship (AKA the Euros), kicks off in Germany, with 22 teams out to beat the bookies’ favourites: France. Later in July sees the start of the biggest sporting spectacle of them all, the summer Olympics and Paralympics: 15,000 athletes and more than 13 million spectators will converge on Paris for the biggest event France has ever organised.
Of course, fashion and sport has had a mutually beneficial relationshsip for centuries as shown by the excellent exhibition Mode et sport, d’un podium à l’autre, held at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, at the beginning of this year. So in our opening statement and publisher’s view, we look mor closely at the background to this partnership and where it is taking us in the future.
