TALKING TEXTILES - a new textile trend magazine

"There is an urgent need to fill the void and bring contemporary textile design into the 21st century”, says Lidewij Edelkoort, world-renowned trend forecaster and Dean of Hybrid Studies at The New School, Parsons School of Design.

We are currently experiencing a return to textiles and their cultural expressions. TALKING TEXTILES is a new trend magazine about the textile industry, looking at how fashion design starts to focus on fabric, how interior design brings back upholstery and how art students reach out to the loom. There is a renewed interest in material processes and an urgency to understand what products are made of. Emerging companies are reintroducing arts and crafts and the recycling of scraps to not let anything go to waste.

Trend moods for spring/summer 2018 and autumn/winter 2018-19 are featured. Other trend stories include: quilting, prints & textile fragments, upholstery fabrics, rugs & flooring, graduate talent from across Europe and the United States, haute couture, 3D printing & technology, industrial mills, indigo dyeing, boro boro, aprons, upcycling, hand looms, textile art & more!

To promote the survival of the different textile expressions, the first ever New York Textile Month was initiated, a celebration of textiles all over the city and its boroughs. The first issue of TALKING TEXTILES also reflects topics linked to this festival's events, helping readers understand how to embrace the fabrics of life.
